These Lock Screen wallpapers are an ongoing challenge to make my Illustration work more utilitarian and accessible. The style and content of the illustrations I produced for this project are all related to a lightness that comes with Spring and Summer. I wanted this joy to radiate to whoever was to come across the wallpapers, and continue spreading joy throughout the month every time the user views their Lock Screen.
Around 94% of 18-29 year olds internationally are smart phone users. I chose this demographic due to the youthful nature of my illustrations. I created lock screen wallpapers for iPhone and Android users to allow for more accessibility, being mindful of current lock screen layouts. Monthly calendars are featured in each wallpaper as a method of convenience to track time without needing to unlock the phone. The wallpapers were released on a monthly basis announced on Instagram and available as free products on Gumroad to increase user reach.
March's theme was a random mix of funny doodles featuring animals, characters, foods, and fruits. With the emergence of Spring, I wanted to create a sense of freedom and play.
April's theme was inspired by memories of dragonfly catching in Seoul, South Korea during summers visiting my grandparents and relatives. The carefree nature of childhood and adventure deeply inspired this wallpaper.
For May's theme I initiated an Instagram poll to see what followers wanted featured in the next wallpaper. A poll asking for characters with cute bottoms (a theme sometimes included in previous illustrations) won. To continue on themes of adventure, I took inspiration from a photo taken at Zion National Park by the follower who first requested these characters in the poll.
