Balcom Canyon Cider

Balcom Canyon Cider (@balcomcanyoncider) is a Hard Cider business located in Ventura, California distributing in over 200 bars, restaurants, groceries, and liquor stores across Southern and Northern California. They value natural, organic ingredients, no added sugars, and producing hard ciders with health consciousness in mind. Due to the fast growth and distribution of their products since their launch in 2020, the team called for a Website Re-Design to dynamically showcase elements of their fun and quirky brand to fit a widening pool of consumers.

The re-design of the landing page was a collaborative effort to highlight Balcom Canyon Cider's unique, colorful brand and hard cider products, while creating a comfortable navigation experience for visitors.

The old landing page.

The old landing page featured a minimal and simplistic approach. The new landing page showcases a more illustrative, eye-catching and branded design.

The Illustrations

My goal for the header image of the landing page was to create an engaging composition with a lot of activity and details. We wanted to match the same level of brightness and colors featured on the hard cider product labels. I took inspiration from the Gateway Session Cider label design, which features some of the same characters in a similar landscape.

*Fun Fact*: The dog characters were inspired by the owners' actually pets.

Health-conscious icons.

I created icons for the landing page which highlight the brand's values of creating a more health conscious hard cider product.

'Where To Buy' page header illustration.

The header illustration for the re-designed Where to Buy page takes visitors on a journey through the landscapes which have been featured in the hard cider label designs. From the left, we see Miss Moo at the farm from the Gateway Session Cider that originally reflects where Balcom Canyon Cider started. From there, we move into the desert featured on the Imperial Ale Cider, the ranches in the Ginger Mule Cider, and end with a nod to the beaches of Ventura, where the hard cidery now exists.

The Products (Hard Cider & Merch)

Hard Ciders are the main product of Balcom Canyon Cider, but more importantly, the ingredients are what make each product unique. Using patterns and illustrations from the packaging which highlight each brew's special ingredients, I created the backdrops for each product.

Merch is Balcom Canyon Cider's second most important product. I wanted the merch product displays to match the funky, fun, and eye-catching qualities of the hard cider displays. Continuing to play with the patterned background, each display highlights the designs from each tee.
