I have made it a goal to create a "yearly" calendar following the lunar cycles starting from the Lunar New Year. Following this timeline allows me to feel more connected to my ancestors and Corea far before colonization. Last year I pushed this concept by creating the Corean Calendar. This year I chose to create an 'Abundance Calendar' focused on targeting Scarcity Mindset that often passes on to first generation children whose parents and generations past experienced the traumas of war and poverty. My goal for this calendar was to create a positive reminder for every lunar cycle that ancestors are always hoping for your success and that life is full of Abundance.
The Abundance Calendar focuses on abundance in many areas of my life that I seek: community, energy, creativity, money, opportunities, and dreams.
The calendar was created solely in Adobe Illustrator using repetitive geometric shapes and patterns, as a kind of repetitive meditation on each phrase.
This repetitive, meditative act is reflective of the lunar cycle; a constant wax and wane within every monthly rotation. The minimalism of choosing only one program and creating simple designs and forms was an intentional, ascetic type of dedication of seeking a pure connection with the moon.
